This Week in Action:
Unify, Celebrate, and Keep Resisting
The District 1 Constituents' Town Hall is fast-approaching. Meanwhile, the people of our community have pulled together for multiple events, including a "pop-up protest" on habeas corpus, with more on the way. There's a lot going on, so let's get into it!
Get Ready for the Town Hall!
Join your neighbors at the District 1 Constituents' Town Hall, a space for CA District 1 residents to share their concerns about the current administration's impact on our community.
While some call similar events "empty chair town halls," we've extended an invitation to Rep. LaMalfa, hoping he'll choose to join us. Whether or not he attends, the microphone will be open to District 1 constituents who want to speak up, and we'll also feature other speakers. RSVP so we can we save a seat for you, too!
To support this event and our upcoming initiatives in the coming months (covering venue costs and supplies), we'll have a fundraising bake sale. Your donations make community-focused events like these possible, as the costs otherwise come out of our volunteers' pockets. We'd also be thrilled to have your volunteer support at the town hall! Reach out to us at ic25volunteers@gmail.com and someone from the Town Hall Team will find you a place to help out.
Indivisible Chico General Meeting is June 1
This month’s General Meeting is going to be unlike any you’ve ever attended. We’ll be at the Women’s Club on June 1st at 5:30 PM.
We’ve got Big Mo on stage, youth performers, tables from allied organizations, speakers, and more. We’ll have drinks, music, connection, and a plan for what to do next. Join us for the fun, and bring a friend!
RSVPs are encouraged because this is going to be a big gathering! Donations are gratefully accepted at the event to cover the venue cost.

Reports from Around Town
Is due process violated in emergencies? Is it done out of arrogance? Or is it part of a strategy? According to Yale professor Jason Stanley, one tactic used to close an open society or build an authoritarian government is subverting the rule of law, creating a system where the leader is seen as above the law.
Due process is a fundamental constitutional principle. The Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments ensure that no person can be deprived of life, liberty, or property without fair legal procedures. This includes notice of accusations, the chance to be heard, and a decision by a neutral party.
Why does this matter? Without due process, anyone can be targeted. People lose the chance to seek legal help, defend themselves, or even see the evidence against them. Violating due process erodes the foundation of equal justice — and opens the door to unchecked power.

The local group Re-Sisters is paying particular attention to this issue. Be on the lookout for Pop-up Protests from this group in the coming weeks. You may have already seen them! They held a demonstration on the Esplanade on Saturday, May 17th, to call attention to Habeas Corpus. We’ll let you know when we have details on their next action.

Hear the Latest on Indivisible's “What’s the Plan”
Watch this week’s “What’s The Plan” Weekly Discussion with national Indivisible Founders Erza Levin & Leah Greenberg.
The nonstop headlines and political chaos aren’t just noise. They’re part of a deliberate strategy to confuse, exhaust, and make us feel powerless. But we’re not powerless, and we’re not alone.
At Indivisible Chico, we believe the best response is to come together: to make sense of what’s happening, focus on what really matters, and take strategic, collective action. National Indivisible’s founders offer a weekly discussion to cover recent events and next steps. These discussions are a perfect way to stay up-to-date and connected.
Sign Up for the Resistance Lab
Our democracy is in a precarious moment. Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal has pulled together the Resistance Lab trainings to help Americans stay informed and aware of the threats posed by the anti-democratic agenda moving through our government. Reserve your spot for the Resistance Lab training here.
Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference. Whether volunteering donating time, or making a donation for supplies for our events, thank you for standing with us!
Your donations help us power local actions, support volunteer-led campaigns, and protect our democracy right here in our community.
