Contacting your elected officials is one of the most effective ways to influence the decisions that affect our lives. Speaking up about the issues you care about lets your representatives know you’re paying attention—and that you expect them to act. Use the tools and tips below to take action today. Every message counts.
Contact Your Representatives
Your Elected Representatives
Know who speaks for you — and how to reach them.
Knowing who represents you and how to contact them is one of the most powerful tools you have as a community member. A phone call from a constituent carries real weight. This page lists every elected official who represents Chico and Butte County residents, from local to federal, with everything you need to reach them directly.
Tips for contacting your representatives
Calling is more effective than emailing. A brief, polite phone call from a constituent carries more weight than an email. You don't need to give a speech! Just state your name, your city, and what you'd like the representative to do. Staff tally these calls and report them to the officeholder.
You don't need to be eloquent. Something as simple as "Hi, I'm a constituent calling from Chico. I'm calling to ask Senator Padilla to oppose [bill name]. Thank you." is completely effective.
Mail to Washington offices is slow. Mail sent to congressional offices in Washington, D.C. is screened and can be delayed for weeks. If timing matters, call or use the online contact form, or mail to a state or district office instead.
You only need to contact representatives in your district. Our state assembly and state senate representatives represent Butte County specifically. For federal matters, contact either U.S. Senator (both represent all Californians) or, once the CA-01 seat is filled, your U.S. Representative.
CA Congressional District 1
The CA D1 seat is currently vacant. Rep. Doug LaMalfa passed away on January 6, 2026. A special primary election is scheduled for June 2, 2026, with a potential runoff on August 4, 2026.
Until the seat is filled, Butte County has no voting representative in the U.S. House of Representatives. The calls going into the office are still expected to be tallied and passed along to Washington DC, but we have no representative to speak for us or advance our interests at the federal level.
This makes your calls to our U.S. Senators and state legislators especially important right now.
Learn more about the special election at the California Secretary of State's page.
