Reflecting on a Year of Resilience
If it’s been a little quiet on our digital channels, it’s only because our community has been loud where it matters most: in the streets.
This year so far has tested our resolve, but Chico has shown up with heart. Side by side, we have been a constant presence, demanding an end to brutal and illegal ICE tactics. Together, we’ve sent a clear message: our neighbors will not be targeted in the shadows.
Our Impact by the Numbers:
Jan 10: 1,000+ neighbors joined forces against ICE tactics.
Jan 20: Over 300 people walked out and stepped up.
Jan 23: 350 of you showed that this movement doesn't punch a clock.
Jan 31: An astounding turnout along 20th St. for the Saturday "ICE Out" presence.
From Junior High and High Schoolers to the students at CSUC, our youth are leading the way, with hundreds hitting the streets this past Thursday. To everyone who held a sign, chanted, or brought a friend: Thank you. You are the source of our community’s courage.
The Elephant Coming to Town: No Kings 3 (March 28th)
The No Kings Alliance has called for another national day of action on March 28th. We are currently working to secure a local venue for our local answer to the national call. Our Festival for Democracy will be a music festival and celebration of 250 years of democracy, and we will announce the location as soon as it's locked in.
We will need volunteers for all kinds of projects for an event of this size. If you or anyone you know would be interested in volunteering for any of the open spots, sign up and let us know. We need help from folks like:
Artists
Electricians
First aid stations
Food trucks
Monitors
Musicians
Photographers
Set up & Take down crews
And more...
This is a massive undertaking. Between permits, safety coordination, and logistics for hundreds of people, the "required extras" will cost over $6,000. Contrary to certain news reports, we aren't "externally funded"—we are a group of volunteers working with table-scraps and spare time.
Can you donate? Any donation goes directly toward the No Kings Festival for Democracy in Chico. If you have the means, your contribution will be put to 100% local use.
Honoring Our District: The Memorial Petitions
Our district is navigating a sudden transition following the passing of Congressman Doug LaMalfa. While our protests focus on federal enforcement, it is still important to remain engaged with all the pieces of our district's representation.
We are launching a trio of Memorial Petitions to honor this moment in our local history and ensure our community's voice is carried forward. One is to support the return of our rural hospitals, a second is a call for accountability for ICE actions, and the third is a request that our representatives look at the impact that ICE activities have on our local agriculture-driven economy to support a “Safe harbor” against ICE surges in our area.
These memorials are not a request for any kind of bill or legal action, but they are a way of exercising our community’s First Amendment rights and petitioning our government even without current representation.
The Goal: We are circulating three petitions for official signatures to submit directly to the Clerk of the House.
The Mission: We need dedicated volunteers to help collect as many physical signatures throughout February for submission to D.C. before June.
Community Tools & Social Circles
Resistance is a marathon, not a sprint. We are helping to build the infrastructure to support each other for the long haul:
Community Bulletin Board: We’ve collaborated with We Are Worth Fighting For Chico to create a central events calendar. Check it out at indivisiblechico.org/event-list.
Submit an event: If you know of an event that should be on the calendar, let us know here.
Signal Updates: Get real-time alerts for Indivisible Chico events. We’ll post announcements 24 hours in advance so you can show up when it counts. Join the Signal Group Here
The "Buycott" List
Put your money where your values are. Our local Buycott List focuses on supporting neighbors over oligarchs. We are expanding this list to identify local businesses standing with the community (Anti-ICE) versus those supporting the current regime.
Volunteer Researchers Needed: Help us verify donation data and business stances. If you know a business that is loudly vocal (one way or the other), let us know!
Email the Tech Team: techteam@indivisiblechico.org
