You're here because you want to
do something, right?
Good!
We have a few specific actions you can take right now, organized by how much time you have.
Volunteer for 5 Minutes
Call the local CA D1 Representative's Office
Constituent calls are one of the most effective tools we have. For California District 1, we are currently represented by a ghost office, an administrative staff without a representative. The elections for filling the seat are this summer.
In the meantime, all we can do to is make our voices heard the old fashioned way, with phone calls.
The Chico office number is (530) 343-1000.
You don't need to give a speech. Just say your name, that you're a constituent, and let the office know their constituents' concerns. If no one answers, leave a voicemail.
It counts. (Literally. They tally up every call and every issue)

Write a Postcard to Congress
Postcards work. In 1973, telegrams to Congress helped bring down Nixon.
There are multiple campaigns nationwide that you can get involved with.
Here are a few worth checking out:
Write a Letter to the Editor
Letters to the editor of the Chico Enterprise-Record and Chico News and Review are read by local decision-makers and your neighbors. A short, personal letter about why a current issue matters to you in Chico is more powerful than you might think. We have tips to help you get started.
Come to our Next Event
The single most powerful thing you can do is show up in person. Every person who comes makes the whole group stronger, and you'll meet neighbors you didn't know you had.
Next event: MayDay Strong!
Time: Friday, May 01, 2026, 3:00 PM
Location: Community Park, 1900 Dr Martin Luther King Jr Pkwy, Chico, CA 95928, USA
Volunteer at an Upcoming Event
We always need help with setup, tabling, greeting, cleanup, and a dozen other things that make our events run well. No experience needed. Just show up ready to help!

Not sure where to start?
That's okay. The best first step is usually just showing up to one event and seeing what feels right.
Everyone can get in where they feel they can help out best, whether that’s with us or with one of the other local organizations in the area that line up with how you want to help in this effort to preserve our democracy.
You can also reach out and tell us a little about yourself and what you care most about. We'll point you in the right direction.
We're all volunteers here. We started somewhere too.

"What's the Point?"
A common question that comes up anywhere when there's a protest or a march or a rally is something along the lines of "What's the point in the signs and silly costumes in the face of these real-world, serious problems?"
That is certainly a valid question. There are a lot of things happening right now that deserve to be seriously, intelligently considered. Everyone should be looking at these things for themselves and asking very real, very difficult questions.
It is hard work. And everyone needs to be doing it.
But not everyone realizes that, or has that awareness. Not everyone knows how to start the process of asking these questions. Awareness events are a way for people to approach these conversations safely and engagingly.
The more people who can get involved, the more impact these events can have. It is not about an immediate result.
It is about showing solidarity, being involved in the preservation of what is important to all of us.
As a community. United.

"One light feeds another.
One strong family lends strength to more.
One engaged community can ignite those around it. This is the power of the light we carry."
– Michelle Obama

Chico Stands with Minnesota
We believe ICE agents should not be paid by our tax dollars to murder citizens on a whim.
Right now, the loudest action is in Minnesota, but there are ICE agents in every state, soaking up our tax dollars in the blood of innocents. We can't stay quiet as it continues in our name as Americans. Minnesota called for a day of action, so Chico showed up to support them.
Over 1,400 people of all ages showed up to the protest in Chico on January 10th, an additional 300+ attended a walkout protest on Tuesday the 20th, and then 350 people in the middle of a Friday on January 23rd, sending a clear message. Thousands more showed up again on January 31st for a 4th ICE Out event. Our community must continue to speak up and speak out as these tragedies unfold across the nation.
Our community needs to stay active, from home or work or wherever we are. We need CA District 1 constituents to call our representatives and demand action.
If you have a phone, you can make your voice heard by the people who we elected to represent the interests of Californians.
